about

All proceeds from Emergency To Emergency will be donated to Kingston's Street Health Centre kchc.ca/barrack-street/street-health-centre/

“…The COVID-19 pandemic has really highlighted some gaps in our social safety net and infrastructure, and as we move into the colder weather, our most vulnerable populations remain at risk. Our goal at Street Health Centre is to connect people living with mental health challenges, substance use and addictions to appropriate and meaningful health and social services. We are so touched by this effort by The Gertrudes to help us support our clients in this unique time. This gift will make a difference to many lives, and is a wonderful example of the power and generosity of our local community...” - Wendy Vuyk, Director, Community Health, KCHC,

Emergency To Emergency focuses on The Gertrudes’ experience with the Covid-19 pandemic and their corresponding thoughts on global issues. Based on the traditional Irish tune “Rocky Road To Dublin” by D.K. Gaven
which was originally written during tremendous economic and political troubles in what became the Irish Republic. To help facilitate the song’s research, recording, and performance The Gertrudes collaborated
with renowned Canadian fiddle player, Teilhard Frost (Sheesham & Lotus).

“Emergency To Emergency is an attempt to express and reflect on some of the anxiety and profound sense of isolation so many people are experiencing at this time…” – Greg Tilson, co-composer for The Gertrudes

lyrics

Emergency To Emergency – The Gertrudes (Dec 2020)

When you’re putting out fires and the well’s run dry
When you raise up your voice and you cannot cry
When you been round the block about a hundred times
When you rage for a world on its final dime

Oh, children can you hear my weeping? Oh, my children
Oh, children can you hear my weeping? Oh, my children

She’s Gone

When you’re laid off for reasons that nobody knows
(from emergency to emergency)
When you’re out in the street ‘cause the deal has foreclosed
(from emergency to emergency)
When your friends are long gone and don’t call anymore
(from emergency to emergency)
When your dinner is served at the variety store
from emergency to emergency.

Oh, children can you hear my weeping? Oh, my children
Oh, children can you hear my weeping? Oh, my children

She’s Gone

Remember the nights and the Ferris wheel lights
With your hands ‘round mine
The full moon just faded whenever you lit up your smile
The children all endlessly circled the stars
As we danced through the colours that shone from their cars
Now it’s dark and I’m lost
As I try to make it alone

She’s gone.

When you’re putting out fires and the wells run dry
(from emergency to emergency)
When you raise up your voice and you cannot cry
(from emergency to emergency)
When you’re laid off for reasons that nobody knows
(from emergency to emergency)
When you’re out in the street cause the deal has foreclosed.
(from emergency to emergency)

Oh, children can you hear my weeping? Oh, my children
Oh, children can you hear my weeping? Oh, my children

She’s Gone

From emergency to emergency
From emergency to emergency

The Gertrudes Kingston, Ontario

The Gertrudes sound like an ol’ time saloon party in deep space … experimental noise beds with down home folk passengers, frolicking through original material, played by a veritable orchestra of instruments.
