about

On Tuesday July 7, 2020, Kingston City Council will vote on whether or not to allow the encampment at Belle Park to remain until the end of July. This proposed extension of the July 7 deadline is necessary to ensure that encampment residents have satisfactory housing options once the encampment is no longer allowed.

Homeless people are some of the most vulnerable people in our city. Ask your City Councillor to vote in favour of allowing the encampment at Belle Park to remain until the end of July, to help encampment residents secure safe and appropriate housing so they are less at risk.

Rather than pay us for this track, we suggest you make a donation to Loving Spoonful or another agency that supports Kingstonians experiencing poverty.

This song incorporates, in full, "Pompey Ran Away", which is most likely a traditional song from West Africa, brought to North America by people kidnapped into slavery, who valued it, remembered it, and shared it with their children and friends. It was first published in a songbook in Glasgow in 1782, without any credit to the original author or authors.

about

The Gertrudes Kingston, Ontario

The Gertrudes sound like an ol’ time saloon party in deep space … experimental noise beds with down home folk passengers, frolicking through original material, played by a veritable orchestra of instruments.
